Tetanus Test
The TETANOSTOP® Tetanus Test is a simple home screening test designed to check protection against tetanus. This tetanus test detects anti-tetanus antibodies in a small finger-prick blood sample.
These antibodies show whether your body still has protection from previous vaccination. Therefore, this test can help you understand whether your tetanus immunity may still be sufficient.
Why a Tetanus Test Matters
Tetanus is a serious infection caused by the bacterium Clostridium tetani. These bacteria live naturally in the environment.
For example, they are commonly found in:
• Soil
• Dust
• Animal waste
• Contaminated surfaces
The bacteria usually enter the body through cuts, wounds, or punctures in the skin.
Once inside the body, the bacteria release a toxin. As a result, the toxin interferes with nerve signals and causes severe muscle spasms.
Because tetanus infection does not provide lasting immunity, vaccination remains the only reliable protection. Therefore, a tetanus test can help determine whether a booster vaccination may be required.
How the Tetanus Test Works
The TETANOSTOP® tetanus test detects anti-tetanus antibodies in whole blood using a rapid immunodiagnostic method.
The test requires only a small finger-prick blood sample.
To perform the test:
-
First wash your hands with warm water and soap.
-
Then clean the fingertip with the alcohol pad provided.
-
Next use the sterile lancet to obtain a small drop of blood.
-
Collect the blood using the plastic pipette.
-
Place the blood into the sample well of the test device.
-
Finally add the diluent drops as instructed.
After that, allow the test reaction to develop.
Read the result within 10 minutes.
Do not interpret the result after 15 minutes.
Understanding Your Tetanus Test Results
Protected Result
If antibodies appear in the test result, the body still has protection against tetanus.
Low or No Protection
If antibodies do not appear, protection may be low. Therefore, a booster vaccination may be recommended.
Consult a healthcare professional for medical advice.
Invalid Result
If the control line does not appear, the test result is invalid. In this case, repeat the test using a new device.
