Helicobacter Pylori Test
The PYLORI-SCREEN® Helicobacter Pylori Test is a home screening test designed to detect antibodies against Helicobacter pylori in a small finger-prick blood sample.
Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is a bacterium that can colonise the stomach lining. Over time, this infection may cause inflammation of the stomach, known as gastritis.
In some cases, the infection may also contribute to stomach ulcers or other digestive conditions. Therefore, early detection can help guide further medical evaluation and treatment if necessary.
This helicobacter pylori test identifies antibodies produced by the immune system during infection.
Why Detecting H. pylori Matters
H. pylori infection is common worldwide. In many people, the infection causes few symptoms at first.
However, the bacteria can irritate the stomach lining and lead to digestive problems over time.
Possible symptoms may include:
• Persistent stomach discomfort
• Bloating
• Nausea
• Indigestion
• Burning stomach pain
• Loss of appetite
Because many gastric ulcers are linked to Helicobacter pylori, early screening can help identify possible infection sooner.
How the Helicobacter Pylori Test Works
The PYLORI-SCREEN® Helicobacter Pylori Test detects antibodies to H. pylori in a small blood sample.
The test uses an immunological method to identify antibodies produced by the immune system when infection occurs.
To perform the test:
-
Wash your hands with warm water and soap.
-
Clean the fingertip with the alcohol pad provided.
-
Use the sterile lancet to obtain a small drop of blood.
-
Collect the blood using the plastic pipette.
-
Place the blood sample into the test device.
-
Add the diluent drops as instructed.
Then allow the test reaction to develop.
Read the result after 10 minutes.
Do not interpret the result after 15 minutes.
Understanding Your Results
Positive Result
A positive result means the test detected antibodies against Helicobacter pylori. Therefore, you should consult a healthcare professional for confirmation and medical advice.
Further medical testing may be required to confirm an active infection.
Negative Result
A negative result means the test did not detect antibodies against H. pylori in the blood sample.
However, if symptoms persist, medical evaluation is still recommended.
Invalid Result
If the control line does not appear, the test result is invalid. In this case, repeat the test with a new device.
