Syphilis Test

The SYPH-CHECK-1® Syphilis Test is a home screening test designed to detect antibodies against Treponema pallidum in a finger-prick blood sample.

Treponema pallidum is the bacterium responsible for syphilis, a sexually transmitted infection that develops in several stages.

During early infection, people may develop painless sores called chancres. Later stages may include skin rashes, flu-like symptoms, and long periods without symptoms.

Because symptoms may disappear while the infection remains in the body, screening can help identify possible infection earlier.

This syphilis test detects antibodies produced by the immune system after infection.

Why Early Detection Matters

Syphilis progresses through several stages if it remains untreated.

These stages may include:

• Primary infection with sores
• Secondary infection with rash and systemic symptoms
• Latent infection with few visible symptoms
• Advanced complications affecting the nervous system or heart

Early screening helps identify infection sooner. As a result, medical treatment can begin before serious complications develop.

Syphilis spreads mainly through sexual contact, although transmission may also occur through infected blood or during pregnancy.

How the Syphilis Test Works

The SYPH-CHECK-1® Syphilis Test uses an immunochromatographic method to detect antibodies to Treponema pallidum in whole blood.

The test requires only a small finger-prick blood sample.

To perform the test:

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly with warm water and soap.

  2. Clean the fingertip with the alcohol pad provided.

  3. Use the sterile lancet to obtain a small drop of blood.

  4. Collect the blood using the plastic pipette.

  5. Place the blood into the test device sample well.

  6. Add the diluent drops as instructed.

Then allow the reaction to develop.

Read the result after 10 minutes.

Do not interpret the result after 15 minutes.

Understanding Your Results

Positive Result

If the test shows a positive result, antibodies against Treponema pallidum may be present in the blood sample. Therefore, consult a healthcare professional for confirmation and medical advice.

Additional laboratory testing may be required.

Negative Result

If the test is negative, antibodies to Treponema pallidum were not detected in the sample.

However, if symptoms are present or exposure is suspected, medical testing is recommended.

Invalid Result

If the control line does not appear, the test result is invalid. Repeat the test using a new device.
