Strep A Throat Test

The STREPA’LERT® Strep A Throat Test is a home screening test that detects Group A Streptococcus bacteria in throat infections.

Strep A bacteria, also called Streptococcus pyogenes, are one of the most common bacterial causes of sore throat and acute pharyngitis.

Because many sore throats are caused by viruses, antibiotics are often unnecessary. However, bacterial infections caused by Strep A may require medical treatment.

Therefore, this strep a throat test helps identify possible bacterial throat infections so that appropriate medical care can be sought.

Why Detecting Strep A Matters

Strep A infections can cause several throat and skin conditions.

Common illnesses linked to this bacteria include:

• Strep throat
• Scarlet fever
• Impetigo
• Erysipelas
• Other bacterial throat infections

If left untreated, Strep A infections may sometimes lead to complications such as rheumatic fever or kidney inflammation.

For this reason, early screening and medical evaluation can be important.

How the Strep A Throat Test Works

The STREPA’LERT® Strep A Throat Test uses an immunochromatographic method to detect Group A streptococcus bacteria from a throat swab sample.

To perform the test:

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly.

  2. Use the tongue depressor to press down the tongue.

  3. Swab the back of the throat and tonsil areas using the sterile swab.

  4. Place the swab into the extraction tube.

  5. Add the extraction solutions as instructed.

  6. Insert the test strip into the prepared sample.

Then allow the reaction to develop.

Read the result within the time indicated in the instructions.

Understanding Your Results

Positive Result

If the test shows a positive result, Group A Streptococcus bacteria may be present in the throat sample. In this case, consult a healthcare professional for further medical advice and treatment.

Negative Result

A negative result means the test did not detect Strep A bacteria in the sample.

However, if symptoms persist or worsen, medical evaluation is recommended.

Invalid Result

If the control line does not appear, the test result is invalid. Repeat the test using a new device.
