Rotavirus Adenovirus Test

The ROTADENO-SCREEN® Rotavirus Adenovirus Test is a home screening test designed to detect rotavirus and adenovirus in stool samples.

Both viruses commonly cause infectious gastroenteritis, which leads to symptoms such as diarrhoea, vomiting, stomach cramps, and fever.

Because these infections spread easily through contaminated surfaces or contact with infected stool, early detection can help guide appropriate medical care and hygiene measures.

This rotavirus adenovirus test identifies viral antigens in stool using a simple immunochromatographic screening method.

Why Detecting Rotavirus and Adenovirus Matters

Rotavirus and adenovirus infections often affect children, elderly individuals, and people with weakened immune systems.

In many cases, these viruses cause acute gastroenteritis that may lead to dehydration if symptoms become severe.

Common symptoms may include:

• Diarrhoea
• Vomiting
• Abdominal cramps
• Fever
• Dehydration
• Loss of appetite

Outbreaks often occur during seasonal epidemics, especially in autumn and spring. However, infections can happen at any time of the year.

Therefore, screening for these viruses can help identify the possible cause of gastrointestinal illness.

How the Rotavirus Adenovirus Test Works

The ROTADENO-SCREEN® Rotavirus Adenovirus Test detects viral antigens in a stool sample.

The test device contains two reactive strips:

• One strip detects rotavirus
• One strip detects adenovirus

To perform the test:

  1. Collect the stool sample using the paper strip provided.

  2. Place the sample into the extraction solution vial.

  3. Shake the vial to mix the sample thoroughly.

  4. Open the test device pouch.

  5. Add 5 drops of the extract into each sample well.

The test reaction will begin immediately.

Read the result after 10 minutes.

Do not interpret the result after 15 minutes.

Understanding Your Results

Positive Result

If two coloured lines appear in the test window, the test detected viral antigens in the stool sample.

This result suggests the presence of rotavirus or adenovirus infection. In this case, consult a healthcare professional for medical advice.

Negative Result

If only the control line appears, the test did not detect rotavirus or adenovirus antigens in the sample.

Invalid Result

If the control line does not appear, the test result is invalid. Therefore, repeat the test using a new device.
